Mockery eBook Philip Kraske Reviews
I'm always kind of "um, uh" with political thrillers, everything in politics being so elastic. This one had this plot that just kept squriming out of your grip just when you thought you had it figured out, though. So by the time I hit about midway through I couldn't stop reading. I highly recommend this book.
The only thing I can say about this book, is that this is... FANTASTIC. It has an incredibly intricate plot with huge u turns, and once you get to its end, the irony and bittersweetness just blow you away. The best of Kraske's books, no question about it. I gotta read this thing again, just to see how he did it.
Fans of John LeCarre will become fans of Philip Kraske. A terrific first novel, Kraske writes as if were already a seasoned pro. The characters are real, the politcal landscape is complex and shady, and the suspense keeps you turning the pages. If you're a fan of this genre, by all means, buy this book. Hopefully, you'll soon devote a shelf to Kraske's future works.
Mockery. It's an extremely entertaining read, about a presidential election where both the candidates are hit by scandals at the last minute, and the independent party candidate wins. The reporter gets to the bottom of the scandals, which is good reading in itself, but the best part comes later, surprisingly when most books start to run out of gas. After Sam Walker the reporter figures out the scandals, the real zigzags in the plot start. The only thing that hit me as kind of false was one of the scandals, which didn't seem all that bad to me as political scandals go, but I guess that gets a pass. Colorful characters galore too, and GREAT dialog. The subtitle is true a novel of politics and truth, though neither one comes off too well here.
First published 2010, still quite relevant … Thanks Phil
